## Video Editing

For all paid accounts (Pro, Growth, and Enterprise), you can use video editing to fine-tune and enhance your Arcade’s video content with a robust set of tools. Whether you're capturing in real time or uploading pre-recorded files, Arcade gives you control over speed, sound, structure, and step transitions.

### How can I edit a video in Arcade?

If you're on the Pro plan or a higher tier, you can:

* **Seek** through the video using the scrubber
* **Trim** the video using blue handles at the start and end of the video timeline
* **Change playback speed**, from 0.5x to 3x
* **Mute or unmute** the audio on any video step

These tools work whether you recorded the video with Arcade or uploaded your own MP4 file.

### Can I zoom in on the video timeline?

Yes. Use the zoom slider on the left side of the timeline to zoom in and get frame-level precision (down to one-tenth of a second), or zoom out to see the entire video at once.

You can also:

* Click the “fit to timeline” icon to auto-adjust zoom
* Pinch on a trackpad to zoom in or out
* Collapse or expand the video editing bar for more space

### Can I mute or unmute a video?

Yes. You can choose whether the audio on a video step should play or remain muted. This is useful when layering music or voiceover on top of an existing recording.

### Can I adjust the speed of a video?

Yes. Use the speed setting to slow down or speed up playback. Options include:

* 0.5x (half speed)
* 1x (normal)
* 1.5x, 2x, or 3x (up to triple speed)

### Can I blur a portion of my video?

Yes! The blurring tool (found in the image editor: paintbrush icon on the far right hand side) allows you to apply blurs to video steps as well as image steps.

## Video Splitting

### What is the video splitting feature?

Arcade’s *Split* feature allows you to divide a single video step into multiple segments. When you split a video:

1. A screenshot is created at the moment of the split
2. The first part of the video plays
3. The user clicks a hotspot on the screenshot
4. The second video segment then begins

This is ideal for creating intentional breaks, decision points, or highlighting moments mid-video.

### How can I turn a video into an Arcade?

Using the Video to Arcade upload function, any video can be turned into a interactive Arcade. From your home view, select "Create new" and then "Video to Arcade". Once you've uploaded your video file, our system will take care of the rest. Avery will split the video, add pan and zooms, and draft your first round of text copy.

### Why are some of my steps greyed?

When you use the video split tool, you may be splitting at an actual millisecond that the coloring has changed on the video, try undoing and splitting at a slightly different location.

If you are using an uploaded video step, something that wasn't captured by Arcade, this greying might apply no matter what. We reccomend recapturing that step with Arcade (and using Arcade as much as you can when recording).

## Capturing Video

### How does Arcade know when to capture a video?

Arcade will automatically capture video when it detects high-motion interactions, including:

* Scrolling
* Typing
* Dragging
* Highlighting

Once any of these actions occur, Arcade will capture video not only for that step but for the rest of the Arcade unless manually overridden.

### Can I record only a video step?

Yes. When using the Chrome extension or desktop app, you can choose to capture a `Video` instead of an `Interactive` or `Screenshot` step. This is useful when you want passive playback without requiring user interaction.

## Recording a Video of Yourself

### Can I record myself using my camera?

Yes. In the `Recording` panel, select a camera source (like your MacBook's FaceTime HD Camera) and a microphone. You’ll be recorded in the corner of the screen, picture-in-picture style.

### What if I want to record audio-only or without the camera?

You can choose `None (Audio Only)` for the video device or turn off the camera/audio from the `Recording` settings. If you later want to add voiceover, you can use the same interface to do so after recording.

### Will captions be generated automatically?

Yes. Captions will be generated automatically when you:

* Record a video using Arcade
* Upload a video with audio
* Add a synthetic voiceover

Users can toggle captions on or off during playback.

## Uploading Video

### Can I upload a video I edited elsewhere?

Yes. You can upload an MP4 file to any step, and it will behave the same as videos recorded inside Arcade — you can split it, trim it, adjust speed, and more.

### Can I upload a video to a specific step?

Yes. Go to the step you want, click `Upload`, and select your MP4 file. This will place the video directly into that step.

## Editing Video Recordings

#### Can I edit video recordings after capturing/uploading to an Arcade?

Yes. After you’ve captured an Arcade, you can add camera video, audio narration, or both. These recordings appear as a small bubble overlay on your Arcade and can be edited after capture.

#### Where do I edit my recorded video?

In the video editing timeline, any slide that includes a recording will display a Recording tab above it. Select this tab to access editing controls for that recording.

#### What edits can I make to a recording?

You can trim the recording by dragging the left or right handles to remove time from the beginning or end of the clip. This is useful for cutting out pauses, mistakes, or extra silence.

#### Can I split a recording into multiple parts?

Not currently. Recordings cannot be split into separate segments. Trimming is limited to shortening the clip from the start or end only.

#### Do I need to re-record if I make a mistake?

Usually, no. The trimming workflow is fast and forgiving, so you can clean up most recordings without re-recording the entire clip.

## Behavior

### Do videos autoplay even if there are hotspots?

Yes. Videos will continue to play even if you’ve added a hotspot unless you use the `Split` feature, which creates an intentional pause.

### Can I copy and paste video steps?

Yes. You can copy an existing video step and paste it elsewhere in the flow. This is helpful when reusing intros, outros, or common explanations.
