Auto Update
Arcade's Agent automatically updates demos with recent new UI changes. No need to do the work, we’ll do it for you and loop you in for approval
Auto Update runs entirely on your device, using only the browser sessions you’re already logged into — no passwords, cookies, or session data ever leave your computer.
The agent simply replays the same clicks and pages from your original recording to generate an updated Arcade, without modifying or performing any destructive actions in your product.
If it encounters anything risky (deleting data, sending emails, provisioning resources, etc.), Auto Update stops immediately, ensuring your data and environments remain fully protected. Please see the section at the bottom for more details.
Overview
What is Auto Update in Arcade?
Auto Update is an AI agent that recaptures an existing Arcade from start to finish. It:
Goes to the same URLs you originally visited
Clicks the same buttons and follows the same path
Generates a new, updated Arcade using your original flow
This lets you refresh demos when your product or website changes, without re-recording everything manually.
When should I use Auto Update?
Use Auto Update when:
Your UI has changed (new layout, new navigation)
Your branding has been updated (logos, colors, typography)
You’ve made small product tweaks but the overall flow is the same
If the flow is completely different (new steps, different user journey), you’ll still get better results by recording a new Arcade.
Starting an Auto Update
How do I start Auto Update on an Arcade?
Open the Arcade you want to refresh.
Click the three dots (•••) menu.
Select Auto Update.
Choose whether to run it now or schedule it for later.
You must have the desktop app installed and be logged in for auto-updates to work
Click Start Auto Update.
The AI agent will begin recapturing your demo in the background.
Can I schedule Auto Update to run later?
Yes. From the Auto Update dialog, choose a scheduled time instead of running it immediately. The agent will start recapturing at the time you select.
Monitoring Auto Update
How can I see the progress of an Auto Update?
While Auto Update is running, look at the Auto Update panel in the bottom-left of your screen. You’ll see:
Which Arcades are currently being recaptured
Which step the agent is on for each Arcade
This lets you track progress without opening each Arcade individually.
Can I keep working in Arcade while Auto Update runs?
Yes. Auto Update runs in the background. You can continue editing other Arcades or creating new content while the agent recaptures your demo.
Can I watch the agent work?
There is a Run in Background option for those who want to watch the updates happen in real time or have control over the agent.
Reviewing & Accepting Changes
What happens when Auto Update finishes?
When the recapture is complete:
Go to the Auto Update panel in the bottom-left.
Click the completed item to open the Auto Updated Arcade.
You’ll be taken to a comparison view.
How do I compare the original and updated versions?
In the comparison view:
The left side shows your original Arcade.
The right side shows the new, Auto Updated Arcade.
You can step through the Arcade step by step to ensure everything looks and behaves as expected.
How do I accept the new version?
Once you’re satisfied with the updated capture:
In the comparison view, click Accept changes.
The updated version will be finalized as your new Arcade.
How can I tell if an Arcade was updated by Auto Update?
Auto Updated Arcades are clearly labeled:
The title will include an “Auto Update” indicator.
A tag is added on the Arcade, showing it was captured by the Auto Update agent.
This helps you quickly see which demos were refreshed automatically.
Behavior & Notes
Does Auto Update change my flow or only recapture it?
Auto Update follows the same path you originally recorded:
Same pages
Same clicks
Same general journey
It’s designed to refresh the Arcade against your latest UI, not to redesign the flow.
What if the product flow has changed too much?
If key pages, buttons, or steps no longer exist, the agent may not be able to complete the journey correctly. In those cases, you’ll likely need to record a new Arcade.
If an Auto Update result doesn’t look right, don’t accept the changes—keep your original Arcade and record a fresh one instead.
Are there any Arcades that cannot be auto updated?
Auto-update currently supports only interactive demos recorded via the chrome extension, and not video based Arcades. We also do not support auto-updates for arcades recored via desktop app
Does Auto Update work on Windows?
As auto update needs the Desktop app (Mac only) to be downloaded and open, it is not yet an option for Windows.
Auto Update Security Notice
Auto Update was designed with a simple principle: your credentials, sessions, and private information should never leave your computer.
This feature uses your active local sessions to keep your data safe while allowing the agent to recapture your demo automatically.
Below is a clear explanation of how the Auto Update agent works — and what it never does.
How Auto Update Works
When you trigger Auto Update, the agent runs locally on your device. It uses the same browser sessions you already have open and authenticated on your laptop. That means:
If you are currently logged into the product or website you recorded, the agent can access that active session.
If you are not logged in, Auto Update cannot log in for you — the process simply fails and stops safely.
The agent only follows the steps you originally captured: the same pages, same clicks, same sequence.
In other words, Auto Update is not “logging into” anything. It is replaying your steps through sessions you already authenticated, entirely on your own machine.
What Auto Update Never Does
No passwords are collected. Auto Update never sees, sends, stores, or requests your credentials.
No session data leaves your computer. Your cookies, tokens, and browser sessions remain strictly local. Nothing is transmitted to Arcade servers.
No server-side replay. The agent does not run on Arcade’s infrastructure. It is executed only on your laptop, using your own environment.
Protection Against Destructive Actions
Because Auto Update clicks through your original path, we’ve built safeguards to detect any steps that could be unsafe.
The agent automatically stops if it encounters:
Delete buttons
Destructive controls
Irreversible actions
Anything labeled or recognized as risky
If detected:
Auto Update halts immediately
You’ll see a notification in the Auto Update panel
No action is performed on the underlying system or product
Note: While we do our best to detect destructive actions there may be failures, ensure the Arcade's you auto-update are not doing irreversible actions.
Why This Approach Is Secure
This model avoids the most common risks associated with automated recapture tools:
No credential transmission
No remote session access
No exposure of cookies or authentication tokens
No server-side rendering with privileged access
Instead, everything runs on your device. Your active sessions stay private. Arcade never touches your login, data, or secure environments.
Auto Update is simply a local tool that reproduces your original clicks inside the boundaries of your authenticated browser — nothing more.
Summary
Auto Update operates under three strict guarantees:
Runs locally on your laptop. No credentials or session information ever reach Arcade servers.
Uses only your existing active sessions. If you're logged out, it fails safely. Auto Update never logs in on your behalf.
Performs no destructive actions. The agent stops immediately if it detects a risky or irreversible step.
This approach ensures Auto Update remains powerful, predictable, and secure — helping you keep demos up to date without compromising privacy or access.
