Cover and Fit

Cover and Fit will allow you to upload pictures, screenshots, Arcades etc. of different sizes and dimensions (landscape vs. portrait) and ensure that they all fit within your Arcade and look great!

How does Cover and Fit work?

Cover and Fit adjusts (crops, zooms in, zooms out, etc the way images and videos are displayed in an Arcade if their dimensions don't match the aspect ratio of the Arcade.

How do I use Cover and Fit?

Found on the right hand side tool bar, Cover and Fit has three main features:

  • Cover: Expands the step's image to cover the entire Arcade's dimensions. This feature "stretches" the image to fill the screen, cropping the image slightly.

  • Fit: Ensures that the step's image in its entire original form fits onto the Arcade, often times creating blank background space. (Within Cover and Fit you can find a Background feature which allows you to choose the color of this blank space).

  • Update Aspect Ratio: When prompted, Arcade will give you the option to adjust the entire Arcade's aspect ratio (dimensions) it bases off, to match the selected step.

Helpful Tip:

When dealing with Arcades that have both landscape and portrait images/steps, it is best to base the Arcade's aspect ratio off the landscape (horizontal) images as it is easier to crop portrait steps into landscapes, than vice versa (which will simply cut the edges off landscape images).

Why is part of my Arcade cut off?

If part of your Arcade is being cut off, it's likely due to a mismatch in the aspect ratio settings or improper use of the Cover feature. Review the following steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Check Aspect Ratio: Make sure that the Arcade's aspect ratio matches the dimension requirements of your images. Depending on which step you choose to base the aspect ratio on, certain steps and images will be cropped accordingly.

  2. Review Cover and Fit Settings: Verify if the images are set to "Cover" or "Fit." "Cover" will stretch and crop the image, whereas "Fit" will maintain the original dimensions with possible blank spaces.

  3. Adjust Step Settings: Revisit each step to confirm whether the images are being displayed as intended.

"Cut off" Arcades/Steps are a common occurrence when merging two Arcades or uploading images of varying dimensions. Certain steps will have different dimensions and thus some will be cropped to create a cohesive look. Choosing the right aspect ratio -- or the step that will decide dimensions -- will ensure that all steps are cropped as minimally as needed and look as good as they can!
